HVWC Wrestling is Back!

With the season fast approaching the coaching staff wanted to reach out to provide some details for the 2023/2024 Hill Valley Wrestling Club season.

Hill Valley Wrestling Club (HVWC) is the combined youth wrestling program (PK – 8th Grade) from the towns of Chatham, New Providence and Summit.

Registration is NOW OPEN!

This year’s registration process is being run through the New Providence Recreation site.

• This will take you to the Login to Community Pass.  If you do not have a CommunityPass account, create one on this screen.  If you do, log in to CommunityPass.

• Select “Browse Activities” button under New Providence PAL

• Select 2023/2024 PAL Wrestling

• This will take you to the section where you select contacts and participants, continue through these sections updating as needed.

• Please be sure to agree to all policies/codes of conduct/waivers/legal statements even if you do not reside in Chatham, all participants must agree to all Policies & Agreements.

• Please note registration will close on October 1st 2023 .

• Cost is $200.00 and does not include team gear (see below for information and link to HVWC Team Store). If cost is an issue PLEASE reach out directly as we aim to include all youth with a desire to wrestle.

Team Store:

Due to the challenges with the timing of delivery and irregularities in sizing, we have switched vendors for our HVWC team gear to Thompson’s Sporting Goods (522 Morris Ave, Summit NJ 07901 – Phone: 908-273-0660).  Thompson’s is local vendor with decades of experience outfitting sports teams.  The switch to a local vendor will allow your wrestler to go to the store to be fitted to ensure proper sizing.

All wrestlers competing for HVWC need to have, at a minimum, a singlet and warm up gear to wear in order to compete in our travel program. We have deliberately kept this year’s gear consistent with last year’s, so if are a returning wrestler and your gear still fits, you don’t need to order anything new.

The Team Store is now open and closes on October 1, 2023 in order to ensure it arrives prior to our first match, so please order asap.  Once the store closes, it will not re-open, and if you miss the deadline you will need to go into Thompson’s to order directly, which will delay delivery and increase the cost.

There will be 3 offerings this season:

Travel Team

• Grades 5 – 8

• Practices will take place in the Summit Middle School Gym

• Schedule: Tuesday/Thursday from 6 to 7:30pm. Saturdays 9 to 10:30am

• Competition: We will be competing in the Future Stars and Northern NJ youth wrestling leagues and possibly entering select tournaments.

Novice

• Grades K – 4

• Practices will take place in the Chatham Wrestling Room – (58 Meyersville Rd)

• Schedule: Monday/Wednesday from 6-7:30pm.

• Competitions: King of the Mat – Typically Saturday mornings starting in December. Some members of Novice will be asked to compete in the Travel league matches.

Clinic

• Grades PK, K and 1st (young first year wrestlers)

• Practices will take place in the Chatham Wrestling Room – (58 Meryersville Rd)

• Schedule: Saturday Mornings from 9-10:30am.

• Competition: In wrestling room live wrestling periods.  Some members may wish to wrestle in King of the Mat (KOM).

Equipment needed:

Wrestling shoes and headgear are MANDATORY– both can be purchased online. Dicks tends to have solid selection. We also have a fairly large selection of used shoes/headgears in the Chatham Wrestling room for those interested. Mouth guards are optional.
